Statewide unemployment went from 8 percent to 8.1 percent from June to July.

Connecticut gained some 11,500 non-farm jobs during the month of July, however the unemployment rate is still stuck at an non-flattering rate.

State Department of Labor figures released Friday detail that the labor market grew .7 percent, but unemployment ticked up a notch from 8 to 8.1 percent from June to July.

“Excluding May 2010, when jobs were boosted by temporary Census employment, this month’s non-farm job gain is the best so far during this recovery which began in February 2010,” said Andy Condon, the department's director of office research.

The DOL noted that this marks the fifth consecutive month of job increases in Connecticut, with 23,100 more jobs having been added since last July. But, in that same time period, the unemployment rate has been stuck at that 8 percent.

Statewide unemployment is also slightly down from this same time last year, but that's because there are 11,948 fewer employed residents.

“Improvements were seen across most of Connecticut’s industry sectors," Condon said. "However, our sample-based monthly employment estimates can be volatile, and we advise looking at trends over longer periods of time. Even on this basis we are seeing substantial improvement over last year."

Condon said if this level of growth continues, the state should see some improvements in the unemployment rate in the new future.
