Stamford Mayor-Elect Martin Announces First Cabinet Appointment

On Thursday morning, Stamford's Mayor-Elect David Martin debuted the first of his cabinet selections, introducing attorney Kathryn Emmett as his newly-appointed Director of Legal Affairs.

Emmett, a Stamford resident since 1976, is a graduate of Harvard College and Yale Law School. She served as a Judge of the Connecticut Superior Court from 1982 to 1988 and was assigned as the Presiding Judge of both criminal and civil dockets of Stamford Superior Court. She became founding partner of her firm Emmett & Glander in 1989. She's also on the Stamford Downtown Special Services District Board of Commissioners and the Ferguson Library Board of Trustees.

"I really love the city of Stamford," Emmett said. "I think it's a great challenge and honor to be in government in Stamford and in this administration in particular. I'm excited to be at the barricades, working for the city and I hope to help make it even greater."

Martin, who described meeting Emmett while they're children were in school together, said her appearances on top lists like Super Lawyers magazine's or the Best Lawyers in America are well deserved.

"Kathy has earner a sterling reputation throughout her legal career and she will bring a walth of experience to the Government Center," he said. "She will be an invaluable addition to my cabinet and I am delighted to work with her."

Emmett said she will likely being to scale back her personal practice to take on the added responsibilities that will come with her new appointment.

"It is a part-time job, by definition," she said. "I will, obviously, have to put both obligations in proper perspective and be sure that I do this job as required and I think that will, necessarily, result in my law practice constricting"

"It's a full-time part-time job," joked Martin.
