The following is a release from Sen. Carlo Leone's Office:
On Saturday at 11 a.m., state Senator Carlo Leone (D-Stamford), Senate Chairman of the General Assembly’s Veterans’ Affairs Committee, will honor three veterans during the MLK 2013 Day of Service in Stamford for service to their country and ongoing service to their neighbors as active community volunteers.
"The legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. sets an example of service to others that all of us can aspire to," Leone said. "The military veterans and Stamford natives whom honor here today exemplify that kind of service. These men gave so much to their country by serving in the Armed Forces, and they continue to give back to their communities by volunteering their time and efforts. Today, we can give a little back by honoring them for their service and for all they have done for all of us."
The ceremony will take place during a larger series of events which comprise the MLK 2013 Day of Service at Trailblazers Academy in Stamford, which runs from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The larger event will feature multiple speakers, performances of song and poetry, and participation by volunteers in more than 15 community service projects across Stamford.
The events commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, which will be observed nationwide on Monday, January 21st.
