Michael Handler Appointed as Stamford's Director of Administration

Most recently, Handler was Executive Vice President at investment bank Jefferies & Co.

Handler has an MBA from Columbia Business School and 15 years experience in finance and investment management. He was a portfolio manager at SAC Capiutal Advisors prior to his position as Executive Vice President at Jefferies & Co.

The city has touted Handler's "extensive financial services background," and "current public sector experience," as something that will allow Handler to bring "valuable perspective."

“Michael Handler brings a unique combination of knowledge and skill to his new
position,” said Mayor Pavia. “We interviewed many, very-well qualified
candidates for this critical position, but in the end, Michael’s proficiency in
finance, combined with his leadership qualities and local government experience
make him the right choice for Stamford.”

In 2011, Michael was named Director of the Office of Emergency Management
for the Town of New Canaan. He also continues to volunteer at New Canaan
Emergency Medical Services, where he has served for the past 12 years.

First Selectman Robert E. Mallozzi III, who has worked with Michael for many
years in various capacities.

“Michael has always demonstrated an innate ability to get things done under stressful conditions, to get the best out of those around him and to lead by example. Michael is a goal-oriented and tireless public servant and I truly believe that Mayor Pavia and the entire City of Stamford will benefit greatly from this appointment.”

Michael first had the opportunity to get to know Mayor Michael Pavia last fall
when a delegation from Stamford, along with several members of the Board of
Representatives, travelled to Lima, Peru to formalize the Sister City relationship
between the two cities. Michael graciously offered to share his expertise and
knowledge with government officials in Lima and continues to communicate and
offer support frequently.

“I am honored by Mayor Pavia’s invitation to serve as a member of his Cabinet and impressed by the caliber of people with whom the Mayor surrounds himself," Handler said. "Mayor Pavia has a dynamic and inspiring vision for the future of Stamford and I am excited to be a part of it.”
