Meek Won't Force Primary So Obsitnik Can Focus on Beating Himes

Although Meek gained 27 percent of the delegates' votes at the state GOP convention on May 19, he announced that he would not force a primary.

Stamford Republican Chris Meek — who had recently won the , as well as the — has reportedly terminated his campaign for the Fourth Congressional District, thus clearing the way for party-endorsed candidate Steve Obsitnik to challenge two-term Democrat Jim Himes in the November election.

Although Meek gained 27 percent of the delegates' votes at the state GOP convention on May 19, he announced that he would not force a primary. He said he'd rather let Obsitnik concentrate on winning back the 4th District seat, which represents most of Fairfield County.

According to a report in the Stamford Times, Meek will now focus on his two non-profit organizations, START Now!, which helps homeowners avoid foreclosure, and Soldier Socks, which distributes toiletries to American soldiers serving in the Middle East.
