The march will begin at Bethel AME Church at 10:45 am and will end at the Yerwood Center (90 Fairfield Avenue). At that time there will be talks on several topics, including education and voter registration, as well as the need for Connecticut to repeal the death penalty.
Speakers will include Jack Bryant, President of the Stamford NAACP, Alberto Bernadez of BJ32 SEIU, and Ben Jones, Executive Director of the CT Network to Abolish the Death Penalty.
Dr. King’s life was dedicated to ensuring basic equality and fairness, which evidence shows Connecticut’s death penalty does not provide.
According to a recent study, racial disparities have marred the death penalty’s application in Connecticut. The study by Stanford Law Professor John Donohue found that - in Connecticut as in other states - defendants who murder white victims are more likely to receive death sentences.
Partnering with the CNADP on this event will be the Stamford NAACP, Stamford-Norwalk Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc, and SEIU 32BJ.
