Don't Miss: Stone Soup for the 21st Century

What can you make with a stone, a pot and a whole community? Stone soup, as the old parable goes.

The third-annual Stone Soup for the 21st Century 2013: Best Practices in Education will take place Saturday, March 23, at the Academy of Information Technology & Engineering.

The program kicks off at 9:30 a.m. and is designed for the whole family. More than 70 individuals, groups, service providers and support agencies will be on hand to support community members with a variety of resources. There are events for pre-schoolers, high schoolers preparing for college and event adults who could use a little help preparing their income taxes.

Activities and performances like Indian dancing, Tae Kwon Do demonstrations and story-telling keep the day light and fun. Event planners said be sure to prepare for some special surprises as well!

Stone Soup attendees can learn about special tax credits for which they may qualify such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled. VITA preparers can also assist taxpayers with filings for prior years. Domus VITA sites are located at the Chester Addison Community Center and at Trailblazers Academy. Those seeking income tax assistance are requested to bring a valid photo ID, social security card and documentation for all income from work, social security or pensions.
