Blumenthal and Himes Advocate to Keep Glenbrook Post Office Open

The following information comes from a press release by Jim Himes

Senator Richard Blumenthal and Representative Jim Himes today joined local officials at the in Stamford to advocate keeping the office open, as well as encourage the community to voice their support for the branch.

“Closing the Glenbrook Post Office would seriously disadvantage a large portion of residents who do not have regular access to transportation or who work multiple jobs and are unable to get to a larger branch to pick up or drop off mail during normal business hours,” said Senator Blumenthal. “The Glenbrook branch is a high-revenue, profitable post office – one that will ultimately help provide a solution to the financial straits faced by the United States Postal Service – and it should not be subject to closure. Local post offices play a significant role in the community, in addition to supporting businesses in the region. I look forward to continuing to work with Representative Himes to encourage the USPS to keep this high-functioning post office open.”

“News from the U.S. Postal Service that the Glenbrook Post Office is once again under consideration for closure is disappointing.  While we must be looking for savings throughout the federal government, we must also choose wisely where to cut,” Congressman Himes said.  “Glenbrook serves as an anchor for economic activity in Stamford, and local businesses and families have come to depend on the convenience of this particular branch.  I will fight as hard as I did two years ago to keep this office open.”
