AG Jepsen Visits Stamford School to Talk Internet Safety

Attorney General George Jepsen stopped by King Low Heywood Thomas School to talk to students about his "10 Principles to Protect Your Privacy Online."

Attorney General George Jepsen stopped by King Low Heywood Thomas School Wednesday to talk to students about internet safety.

The event was part of Optimum's Power to Learn "Internet Smarts" campaign. Students heard from CableVision representatives, other students and the Attorney General about how to best protect themselves online from scammers, phishers, Google and Facebook.

Jepsen presented his "10 Principles to Protect Your Privacy Online":

  • Stop and think before posting any information online.
  • Pay attention to location services on your phone or other mobile device.
  • Monitor and strengthen your security settings on social media.
  • Print out business or website privacy policies and read them with parents.
  • Avoid using public computers to access personal and private information.
  • Don't share your Social Security number or other personally identifying information unless you know it is for a legitimate purpose.
  • Never give up personally identifiable information in response to an unsolicited email, text or telephone call.
  • Use only secured connections or encrypt private personal or financial information.
  • Protect your identity and conduct credit checks.
  • Protect wireless settings to protect information being sent.
