WWI, WWII Era Weapons Recovered During Stamford Home Eviction

Among the items recovered were a Browning machine gun and a bazooka, police said.

Police serving an eviction notice at a home on Lenox Avenue early Monday morning discovered a Browning machine gun and a "5-foot bazooka," according to Sgt. Andrew Gallagher of the Stamford Police Department.

Gallagher said the weapons all dated to the World War I and World War II era.

The house, in the first block of Lenox Ave., had moving trucks on the lawn and in the driveway and a state marshal was still on scene Monday afternoon.

Asked not to be identified by name, the marshal said they'd never seen anything like the magnitude of the score that morning.

"We were just going through the standard eviction procedure and found automatic weapons, a bazooka, a rifle, a machine gun, a ton of ammo," the marshal said. "We called in the local police department and are in the process of emptying every drawer to make sure we don't miss anything."

The marshal said the weapons all seemed to be decommissioned, but they weren't taking any chances.
