Woman Attacked on Stamford's Prospect Street

A 31-year-old city woman was attacked by a couple during an attempted robbery and then chased into a market Sunday night, police said Monday.

According to police, the woman was walking along Prospect Street at approximately 8:38 p.m. when she was struck in the back of the head with a "cane-like instrument" by a suspect described as a dark-skinned black female standing approximately 5-feet, 4-inches. The suspect was reportedly wearing blue pajama pants and a navy blue zip-up hoodie.

The suspect allegedly told the victim to empty her pockets of cash and her cellphone, at such point the victim tried to flee.

Police said that's when a black male appeared and blocked her path. The man was described as having brown skin, standing approximately 5-feet, 8-inches and was wearing camouflage pants, a tan shirt and a tan baseball cap turned backwards.

The victim was able to flee into the parking lot of the Prospect Market, where she told a store employee to call the police. Authorities said the male told the female suspect they should flee before police were contacted.

According to police, the victim's story was corroborated by the store employee, who said the woman fled into the store with the pair chasing her.

The area was canvassed, but no leads were established or arrests made. The victim received attention from EMS at the scene.
