Week in Review: November 28-December 4

Mayor Pavia's new fire plan, the Stamford Boat Parade and a tour of Fairway Market.

With the holiday season in full swing, it's probably a bit difficult to keep up with the latest news. So here's a review of what happened this week:

Residents came out despite the cold weather to check out the  which in previous years was cancelled due to choppy conditions. This parade was particularly special since it was the first one that was announced to the public. It obviously made an impact as hundreds of people showed up to see beautifully decorated boats.

At Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church this past Monday, community leaders and educators  to discuss the possibility of opening a charter school for boys in Stamford. Led by Stamford NAACP president Jack Bryant, attendees were able to discuss their hopes and concerns with Michael Sharpe of Jumoke Academy in Hartford.

 columnist Jodi Helman took a  of Fairway Market this week, leading readers on a journey through the cheese shop, bakery and olive bar. She also offered some tips for navigating the aisles when shopping for the basics.

And on Wednesday night, Mayor Pavia a revised report to the Board of Reps' Public Safety and Health Committee that outlines some of the costs of funding the city's new fire plan. The updated report will shed some light how the new department will finance the proposed plan, which merges the city's various volunteer fire departments into a system overseen by a single chain of command.
