Water Main Break On Hope St. at Avon St. in Stamford

Stamford emergency responders and the water department are on scene assessing the situation and preparing to repair the break.

A water main break on Hope St. at Avon St. in Stamford is not initially being blamed on a construction company that had been at the site doing work over the past month, police said Thursday night.

Lt. Charles White, scene commander, said the water company was still assessing what had occurred at the break, but workers were not on the scene when the break occurred.

Water began to spew from the ground sometime around 10:30 p.m. Thursday night. Authorities said motorists should expect delays throughout the evening as the site is repaired ad the road remains closed to one lane.
