[UPDATE] Officer Troy Strauser Recovering, Friends & Family Optimistic

Sgt. Joseph Kennedy, President of the Stamford Police Association, said Off. Troy Strauser is improving during his recovery.

Sgt. Joseph Kennedy gave an update on Off. Troy Strauser Tuesday morning, speaking to press out front of the Stamford Department of Police Services about Strauser's recovery.

"Medically, he's still in the same status," Kennedy said. "He's improving. It's a recovery now."

Kennedy said the hospital is going above and beyond to make sure everything is going according to plan with Strauser's healing, and part of that is making sure everyone gives Strauser some room to breathe.

"As a union, we're trying to give the family some space," Kennedy said. "He's only meeting with his wife. We're following doctors orders. We feel as if he's improving. He's a very strong person in mind and body. He's fighting."

When asked if Strauser has mentioned a return yet, Kennedy drove home that he wants the officer to rest—but he hopes Strauser doesn't forget about them.

"We want him to be selfish right now and take care of himself," Kennedy said. "We're hoping [he'll return to the department.] We'd love it if everything went that way and we're hoping Troy does, too."

Strauser was while chasing a suspect last week.
