After a New Canaan police officer Wednesday evening checked out a car parked at the Talmadge Hill train station lot, each of the three male teenagers inside was charged with something.
For one of the passengers in the vehicle it was possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. For the other two it was third-degree forgery — on accusations that they were carrying fake IDs.
Here's how New Canaan police said it happened (an accusation not proven in court):
At 8:32 p.m., an officer patroling the area saw the car parked in the upper lot at the train station. As the officer approached, one of the passengers could be seen bending down — which can be a sign that the person is hiding something.
When asked what he was putting under the seat, the 18-year-old passenger, a resident of Hollow Tree Ridge Road in Darien, pulled out a large Gatorade bottle which had some marijuana in it, along with a vaporizer (a device that sucks up smoke from a tobacco or marijuana cigarette, reducing the amount of smoke).
The passenger also had a marijuana grinder with him. He was charged with possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana and with possession of drug paraphernalia — both infractions. He was issued a ticket.
The driver, a 19-year-old Stamford resident, had a phony driver's license purporting to say he was 21 years old and from Maryland. The other passenger, a 19-year-old Trumbull resident, had a fake Ohio driver's license saying he was 22. Each was charged with third-degree forgery, a misdemeanor.
The two teenagers with fake IDs were scheduled to appear June 3 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
