Authorities attempting to conduct a traffic stop Friday morning had to chase down both the vehicle and the passenger after they split up and each lead officers in a pursuit, police announced Friday afternoon.

According to authorities, officers attempting to pull over a black Saturn that had run a redlight at the intersection of Henry and Pacific streets took off, pulled over briefly to let the passenger out, then again took off at a high rate of speed.

Ofiicers gave chase to the passenger on foot and took him into custody after a brief struggle, they said, identifying the suspect as Gerald Raheneen Myrthil, 31, of Green St.
