Teen at Stamford's West Hill High Charged After 'Shooting Joke'

A Stamford teenager was arrested after police said she off-handedly made a comment about causing some sort of shooting, authorities said Thursday.

According to police, the 14-year-old high school girl "said in a joking manner" that she was going to cause the incident to a friend, who then told her parents, who in turn relayed the comment to school officials.

Police officers spoke with the West Hill High student with school officials and school resource officers, who determined there was no basis for credibility to her comment, authorities said, but due to today's climate of hypersensitivity to comments like the teen's, she was placed under arrest.

The police reiterated that there was no credible threat to the school, but charged the juvenile with breach of peace.
