Teaching Assistant Steals Teacher's Identity

Charlette Gore, formerly a paraprofessional at Northeast Elementary School, was arrested Monday morning for allegedly stealing money and a credit card from a teacher, and then buying merchandise from Victoria's Secret with it.

West Haven's Charlette Gore, 22, a teacher's assistant at , was arrested and charged at 9:20 a.m. Monday morning with several identity theft-related offenses.

"One of the teachers that she was assigned to discovered suspicious activity on her credit card," Sgt. Andrew Gallagher of 's Property Crimes Unit said. "Her card was taken from her purse, and cash was taken from her purse."

SPD's investigation began on May 20, and they were able to backtrack charges that Gore made. "Numerous charges were for merchandise to be sent to Gore's address, or to pay Ms. Gore's bills," Gallagher said. According to Property Crimes, Gore ordered merchandise from Victoria's Secret, and had it sent to her personal address.

"She used the teacher-victim's credit card to pay her cell phone bill," Gallagher said.

While Gore has had an outstanding warrant for some time, she wasn't arrested until she met with Erin Jackson, her probation officer. "She was with her probation officer, who found out about her outstanding officer. Jackson called police, and we picked up Gore from her office," Gallagher said.

SPD has officially charged Gore with two counts of third degree identity theft, two seperate counts relating to credit card fraud, fifth degree larceny, and sixth degree larceny.

"She will be arraigned on Oct. 17," Gallagher said. Gore has not yet been given a bond.
