Stratford Woman, Second Pedestrian, Dog Struck by Car in Stamford

All received emergency care following the incident.

According to authorities, two pedestrians and a dog were struck by a vehicle Tuesday, March 19, at a busy intersection outside the Stamford Government Center.

According to Laurie Hollywood, Director of the Stamford Animal Care & Control Shelter, the victims and pet were traveling on foot in the vicinity of Washington and Tresser boulevards when they were struck. Police said the victims had been crossing the street outside of a crosswalk.

Police said victims, one of whom was a woman from Stratford, were taken to Stamford Hospital, one with arm and leg injuries and the other with a foot injury. Both were treated and released later that evening.

The dog, a 6-month-old, light brown brindle Staffordshire Terrier named Chulo was taken to Cornell University Veterinary Specialists at 880 Canal St, which is open 24-hours, according to Hollywood.

The dog was slightly traumatized following the incident, Hollywood said, and a vet was brought on scene by police even before shelter officers could arrive to tend to the animal. Initially it was believed the dog had a broken leg, but testing showed it to be fine.

The vet's office said Chulo returned home Wednesday morning.

According to police, the 32-year-old driver stated the sun was in his eyes and he couldn't see the pedestrians. Police said the driver was cited for traveling too fast for which conditions allowed. The pedestrians were cited for crossing the street outside of a crosswalk.
