Stamford Teen Charged in Second Motor Vehicle Theft Incident

He was previously charged in a November 2012 theft.

A 19-year-old Stamford man was charged with a second motor vehicle theft Sunday, April 20, after police allegedly caught him driving around in a car that had been reported stolen.

According to Stamford police, officers on patrol in the area of the Forest and Bedford streets parking garage spotted who they identified as Bacilio Martinez driving a silver BMW X5 as he exited the parking lot.

The officers reportedly knew Martinez from a previous motor vehicle incident in which he allegedly lifted keys to a motor vehicle that did not belong to him as he exited a Stamford medical center.

Officers conducted a search on the vehicle's license plate and discovered it had been reported stolen and conducted a motor vehicle stop on the vehicle.

Martinez allegedly declined to give authorities his license, stating he was no longer interested in answering the officers' questions. When informed that he was required by law to present a license when requested by a police officer, Martinez allegedly said he would not be complying as he did not like police officers.

Martinez also said his friend let him borrow the car, whom he identified as "a black guy," for whom he could not provide a name.

Martinez was placed under arrest and charged with first-degree larceny and interfering with an officer/resisting.
