Stamford Traffic Stop Leads to Heroin Charges

Pair allegedly found with more than 6 grams of heroin.

Patrol officers conducting a traffic stop at Stillwater Ave. and Spruce St. in Stamford Wednesday afternoon ended up making two arrests on drug charges, police announced Thursday.

According to authorities, a vehicle being operated by who police identified as Shawn Anthony Cackowski, 41, of Plymouth Rd., was stopped and it was discovered Cackowski was allegedly operating the vehicle while under suspension.

Police asked if Cackowski or his passenger, who they identified as Victor A. Ranero, 41, of Avery St., were in possession of any illegal items. Polcie alleged Cackowski informed them of possession of a half-dozen hypodermic needles and nothing else.

The pair was asked to step out of the vehicle and, as police were going to have to tow the vehicle due to the driver being under suspension, authorities conducted a search of the car as is standard procedure when taking inventory of a towed vehicle.

Police said the search turned up 6.3 grams of heroin, worth approximately $340, and the needles. Both parties were placed under arrest as neither party admitted to owning the drugs, police said.

Ranero was charged with possession of narcotics, conspiracy to commit the crime of possession of narcotics sale of certain illegal drugs, conspiracy to commit the crime of possession with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia and conspiracy to commit the crime of possession of drug paraphernalia. Cackowski faces the same charges with an additional charge of illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under suspension.

Pasquale Blandino, 93, of Strawberry Hill Ave., charged Wednesday night with evading responsibility while causing property damage/injury and failure to drive right. 

Walter J. Castillo, 63, of George St. in Bridgeport, charged Wednesday afternoon with traffic control signals and evading responsibility while causing property damage/injury.

Jayro Saudi Galicia-Chavez, 38, of Washington Blvd., charged Wednesday night with disorderly conduct and violation of a protective order.

Teah L. Maunula, 27, of Rachelle Ave., charged early Thursday with illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol and violation in a construction zone.

Francisco Antonio Rosario, 57, of Ursula Pl., charged Wednesday afternoon with violation of probation.

Mark Uzar, 47, of Himestead Ave., charged early Thursday with five counts of second-degree criminal mischief.
