Stamford Police Arrest Mugger in Scalzi Park

Local police officers arrested a mugger in Scalzi Park thanks to help from an unknown source.

The owes the Sunday arrest of a mugger to a key witness, but not even SPD can identify the possible heroine.

The 23 year-old female victim, whose name has been witheld by police, alledgedly went to the Wells Fargo located at 2284 Summer St. at 12:23 a.m. Sunday morning.

According to Sgt. Paul Guzda,  suspect Richard Harrell, 42, of 18 High Street, Stamford, followed the victim into the bank.

"A woman at the bus stop saw the suspect hanging around the bank," Guzda said. "The robber went in after the victim, assaulted her, and the witness banged on the window. That spooked him, and the robber fled."

According to SPD, police were notified. "The result was a big foot pursuit through ," Guzda said.

"Lt. Montagnese and Lt. Perez of the SPD engaged in a struggle with the suspect along with several other officers. They eventually subdued him and arrested him."

Harrell has been charged with one count of resisting arrest, one count of 3rd degree robbery, one count of 2nd degree threatening, and one count of failure to appear in court.

"Police are currently looking for the witness, to thank her and to get more information from her," Guzda said.
