A Stamford man who Greenwich Police say was seen crossing the double-yellow line along Delavan Avenue and then nearly hitting the curb is facing several charges including driving while intoxicated.
Around 2:30 a.m. June 18, police stopped the driver on Delavan Avenue, near Tingue Street in the Byram neighborhood of Greenwich. Officers reported a smell of alcohol on the man's breath and despite that he appeared unsteady on his feet, he tried to flee and "was brought down to the ground utilizing soft hand tactics," according to a police report.
Jorge Luis Mendez-Mazariegos, 28, of 60 Adams Ave., Stamford, also resisted officers when they tried to search him. He then failed field sobriety tests, according to the report.
Mendez-Mazariegos was charged with failure to maintain lane, operating without a license, driving while intoxicated and two counts of interfering with an officer. He is scheduled to appear July 2 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
