A 33 year-old man is on life support after nearly drowning in a pool at his Glenbrook Rd. apartment complex, authorities said Friday morning. The department previously told reporters that the man died.

The man, identified by police as Naveed Rafique, was reportedly going to take his 3-year-old daughter swimming at approximately 7:34 a.m. when an unknown incident occurred and he ended up face down in the deep-end of the pool, police said.

His daughter screamed, "My father is down in the pool," and two neighbors heard the girls screams and called police. Officers were in the area and were able to respond within a minute's time, according to police.

Authorities said no attempt was made to pull the man out of the pool prior to arrival of police.

Officers arriving on scene found the man under roughly 7-feet of water, police said. Officers stripped off their shirts, gun belts and shoes and dove in to pull the man out of the water and began chest compressions until EMS crews arrived and took over.

The man was then transported to the hospital, police said.
