Stamford Man Charged with Speeding Around on Stolen Motorcycle

The man claimed to have purchased the bike off someone at an I-95 exit.

Police made one arrest and recovered an allegedly stolen motorcycle after officers on partol witnessed two bikes speeding off from a light at an intersection, authorities said Thursday.

According to police, a patrol unit stopped behind two motorcycles side-by-side at a red light Wednesday evening at approximately 6 p.m. witnessed the bikes peel out when the light turned green, one taking off while performing a "wheelie."

Officers noted the drivers of the bikes were not wearing face protection, and followed them into a Shell Gas Station when they pulled in to fuel up the bikes, police said.

A traffic stop was conducted and it was discovered the plates for both motorcycles had been canceled at some point, police said. Officers then conducted a search on the VIN numbers for the bikes and discovered one was reported stolen out of Derby, Connecticut, according to police.

According to authorities, the driver of that bike, identified by police as Jhony Orlando Bonilla-Ochoa, 26, of Seaton Road, told police he had recently purchased the bike from a man at exit 9 off I-95 for $8,500. The man reportedly received a title and bill of sale at the time of purchase, but never verified the VIN numbers, police said.
