Stamford Man Charged with Alleged Copper Wire Stripping

A neighbor reportedly saw the man removing copper wire from a Thunder Hill Drive home—then followed him while on the phone with police until they could arrive.

Authorities received a call Monday afternoon from a concerned neighbor who began tailing a suspect that would later be arrested on charges os stripping copper wiring from a residence, police explained Tuesday.

According to authorities, a neighbor in the vicinity of 99 Thunder Hill Drive allegedly witnessed a man loading up his truck with copper wiring from the home. The neighbor contacted police and then began tailing the suspect, staying on the phone with dispatch until they were able to catch up and conduct a stop, police said.

Police said the man, identified as Shawn Anthony Cackowski, 41, of Plymoth Road,  was allegedly found to be in possession of a quantity of copper wire in the back of his truck and was subsequently arrested and had his truck seized as evidence.

Cackowski was charged with fourth-degree larceny (theft from a building), third-degree criminal trespass and illegal operation of a motor vehicle while suspended.


Other Arrests

Christopher Allen Bautista, 24, of Lafayette St., was charged Monday afternoon with violation of probation.

Tyrone William Elliot, 38, of Hanrahan St., was charged early Tuesday morning with prostitution, possession of drug paraphernalia and interference with an officer/resisting.

Troy Wayne Helmbolt, 41, of Fawn Dr., was charged early Tuesday morning with illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, improper turning and failure to obey a stop sign.

Jose Hernandez, 57, of Pacific St., was charged Monday night with second-degree breach of peace.

Timothy Morgan, 28, of Connecticut Ave., was charged Monday evening with second-degree breach of peace and interfering with an officer/resisting.
