According to police, the incident began when officers were called to an apartment on Friday evening after Ben Mosley, 21, of 5 Jamroga Lane, Stamford, reportedly assaulted his nephew. Mosley's sister told police that while her son was in bed, Mosley was holding him down and yelling at him. When Mosley's sister tried to intervene, he punched her in the face.

Mosely's sister exited the apartment and asked the building's maintenance man to call the police. When the maintenance man approached Mosley, he pulled a black handgun on him. Mosley's sister locked Mosley out of the apartment, but her grandmother let him back in. He then pulled the gun on his sister and threatened to shoot her if she tried to call the police.
