Stamford Male Robs Men at Gunpoint, Steals BMW

Stamford's Orlando Montalvo was arrested Monday morning for allegedly threatening two men who were confronting him with a gun and subsequently joy-riding in their car.

Stamford resident Orlando Montalvo, 27, faces several serious robbery charges for allegedly drawing a gun on two men who confronted him about a previous robbery, and then stealing their BMW.

"Two officers were dispatched to 54 Blachely Road at 11:12 p.m. on Oct. 16 to respond to a call of a stolen motorcycle," SPD's incident report of the robbery states. "He [the victim] had approached a male he believed stole his motorcycle, and might have a gun. He statted that he and his friend were traveling west on East Main Street, at the intersection of East Main and Blachely Road. He stated that he saw a male sitting on a red and white moped at the top of the cut through Maher Road, and that the moped looked like the one that was stolen from him a month ago."

According to SPD, the complainants approached the male, who was later identified as Montalvo,  and questioned him about the moped.

"Orlando put his hands behind back, pulled out a handgun, and brought the gun to the front of his body, pointing the muzzle at the ground," SPD's arrest report states.

Both Montalvo's account of the incident and the complainant's account of the incident report that both complainants fled Montalvo, with one complainant said that they saw Montalvo enter their BMW as they ran. According to both complainants, they had left the keys in the ignition when the confronted Montalvo, which allowed him to take their care away from the scene.

Officers found neither the stolen BMW or the moped at the crime scene. The BMW was later found at 111 Courtland Circle, while Montalvo was found by the SPD, without a vehicle, at the intersection of Maher Road and Ursala Road, postively identified by the BMW keys in his back pocket. Montalvo's firearm, which later proved to be a facsimile, was found on Maher Road.

"The BMW was enteted into evidence," Montalvo's arrest report states.

Montalvo has a different account of the incident than the complainants.

"Montalvo stated that the BMW came so close, he thought it was going to hit him. Montalvo thought the two men were trying to steal his moped," SPD states in their arrest report. "Montalvo stated that he got into the BMW and drove it from Blachely Road so that the two males could not chase him."

Montalvo, who was arrested at 12:57 a.m. on Sunday, is being charged with second degree robbery, resisting an officer, carrying a dangerous weapon, and third degree larceny. He is being held on a $50,000 bond.
