Stamford Landscaper Charged With Stealing 43k from Elderly Homeowner

Stamford landscaper Hector Rivera was arrested and charged allegedly entering the home of his 93 year old employer, stealing checks from him, and forging them.

Hector Rivera, 29, of 284 Selleck St.,was charged with first degree larceny on Monday for stealing $43,000 from his elderly employer's bank account.

"Rivera was a landscaper who worked at 1239 High Ridge Road for an elderly gentleman," Sgt. Charles White said. "The victim was 94 years old."

The victim's name has not been released by the SPD.

"The victim would let Rivera in to use the bathroom and get some water. The victim later went to the bank, found that his balance was low and discovered that Rivera had stolen and forged the victim's checks, writing them out to him. Rivera stole approximately $42,000," White said.  "He was driving somewhere to collect some money, and officers were waiting on him."

When police stopped Rivera, they found that Rivera's vehicle was not insured, and Rivera had not obtained the correct class license for the vehicle.

Rivera was arrested and charged with first degree larceny, first degree forgery, improper use of a marker, illegal operation of a motor vehicle, failure to insure a private motor vehicle, and third degree burglary.

Rivera is currently being held on a $50,000 bond.
