Stamford Cyclist Seriously Hurt When Hit by Motorist

Stamford teen seriously injured in the crash.


A 17-year-old Stamford cyclist was seriously injured Thursday night when he was struck by a motor vehicle turning from East Main Street onto Lawn Avenue, Stamford Police said.

According to a police statement, at 9:29 p.m. the Stamford Police Department, Stamford Fire Rescue and Stamford EMS were dispatched to 985 E. Main St. on the report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle.

Emergency personnel found that the injured party was actually a 17-year-old bicyclist from Stamford who was westbound on East Main in the right travel lane. A vehicle being driven by a 59-year-old Stamford resident, was eastbound on East Main and the collision occurred when the driver attempted to make a left turn onto Lawn Avenue. The bicyclist collided with the right front of the vehicle, according to the police statement.

The cyclist suffered serious injuries and was taken to Stamford Hospital.

The accident is being investigated by Officers Jeffery Booth and Thomas Drain of the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad. Anyone with information about the crash can contact either officer at (203) 977-4712.
