Stamford Crossing Guard Struck by Vehicle

The 61-year-old crossing guard was transported to Stamford Hospital for pain in his back and sides.

A Stamford crossing guard was transported to the hospital Monday after being struck by a vehicle while performing his duties, police said Tuesday.

According to authorities, the 61-year-old crossing guard had just entered the intersection at Maple Tree Avenue and Courtland Avenue when a vehicle traveling west along Maple Tree attempted to make a right turn and struck the man.

Authorities said witnesses described that the crossing guard had entered the intersection and had his stop sign up when the accident occurred.

The victim was transported to Stamford Hospital, complaining of pain in his back and sides. The operator of the vehicle, a 53-year-old male, was found at fault by police and issued an infraction for failure to obey a crossing guard.
