Stamford Cab Co. Employee Eyed in Robbery, Faces Drug Charges

Stamford police have arrested a person of interest in an armed robbery on drug possession charges unrelated to the robbery case, it was announced Tuesday.

According to Lt. Diedrich Hohn, charges could still be brought against Cristos Mazarakos, 34, for the events of Monday, July 29, at approximately 1:20 a.m.

Hohn said the Eveready Cab Company on Lenox Avenue was robbed at gunpoint Monday morning when a dispatcher at the company's headquarters buzzed in the suspect without looking at the security camera to see who was out front. The dispatcher was then pistol whipped in the face and suffered numerous facial injuries, Hohn said.

Two bags containing roughly $6,000 were stolen before the suspect fled. Hohn said the company pays its employees Mondays and has an increased amount of cash on hand. Mazarakos was the dispatcher on the shift prior to the robbery, he said.

After police developed Mazarakos as a suspect, a search warrant was executed at his residence at 81 Rippowam Road, Hohn said. He detailed OxyContin, marijuana, cocaine and packing materials and scales being found at the residence during execution of the warrant. The suspect was charged at approximately 8:30 p.m. Monday.

Mazarakos was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was held in lieu of a $25,000 bond.

An investigation into the armed robbery of the cab company is ongoing, Hohn said. The dispatcher was observed overnight for facial injuries, a broken nose and sinus cavity fracture.
