Stamford, Brigeport Man Arrested after Apparent South End Drug Deal

Police say they arrested two men following a crack-cocaine drug deal late Tuesday night in Stamford's South End.

Jose Enrique Montanez, 27, of 100 Horace St., Bridgeport, was charged with sale of illegal drugs. Dwane Hughes, 54, of 479 Elm St., Stamford, was charged with possesion of narcotics.

Officers in the area of 79 Manhattan St. witnessed what appeared to be a cash-for-drugs transaction, with a man later identified as Montanez appearing to sell the drugs, at about 11:30 p.m., police said. About one hour later, police say they saw a man in a dark Jeep on Garden Street approach Montanez and hand over money in exchange for a package.

Police followed the dark Jeep, which Hughes was driving, and seized .2 grams of crack-cocaine, according to a police report. Police say they also arrested Montanez and found $797 in cash on him. The first man who appeared to have purchased a package from Montanez was not identified, police said.

Mayelin Milag Gonzalez-Perez, 38, of 50 Forest St., was arrested at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and charged with second-degree threatening and carrying a dangerous weapon.
