"Speed Not A Factor" In Tuesday Morning Cab-Pedestrian Collision

Stamford police will not press charges against a cab driver in a Tuesday morning taxi-pedestrian collision.

Squad (C.A.R.S.) is investigating a collision that occured 11am Tuesday morning at Washington Blvd. and Main Street.

"A 2004 Ford Crown Victoria 4-door taxicab traveling northbound on
Washington Blvd collided with a pedestrian crossing east to west at the
south crosswalk with Main Street. The taxi, bearing markings for Eveready
Cab, is owned by Stamford Yellow Cab of Darien, CT," SPD's Andrew Gallagher announced in a press release. 

"The pedestrian, Francis Monaghan, age 73, of Washington Court Stamford, CT was struck on his left leg and sustained additional head injuries as a result of being thrown to the roadway after the collision...the taxi driver Ofalio Jean-Pierre, age 66, of Howard Avenue Norwalk, CT cooperated with the investigation," Gallagher said.

Monaghan was taken to Stamford Hospital, where he is being treated for non-critical injuries.

According to Gallagher, speed was not a factor in the incident, and Jean-Pierre will not be charged with any crime.
