SPD Assists in Shutting Down Bridgeport Drug Ring

SPD's Narcotics and Organized Crime Squad was credited among other major CT law enforcement agencies with closing down a Bridgeport drug operation run by Andre Spaulding, who was sentenced today.

Stamford Police Department's Narcotics and Organized Crime Squad played a crucial role in the arrest of drug dealer Andre Spaulding, 28, of Bridgeport, who was sentenced to over twelve years in a district court today.

"This matter was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Bridgeport High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force," United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut David B. Fein announced today.

In today's press release, Fein credited the SPD, the SPD NOCS, and several other law enforcement agencies for the success of "Operation Big Loot", which was designed to shut down Spaulding's crack-distribution ring.

"On March 11, 2010, Spaulding pleaded guilty to one count of conspiring to distribute five grams or more of cocaine base," Fein stated.

"As a result of the investigation, a total of 52 individuals have been charged in state and federal court with various narcotics offenses related to the distribution of cocaine and crack cocaine in the greater Stamford area.  During the investigation, law enforcement officers seized approximately $165,000 in cash, one kilogram of cocaine, two kilograms of crack cocaine, five firearms and several vehicles."
