Police: Finger, Palm Prints of Burglar Lead to Arrest

A 29-year-old Stamford resident was arrested March 12 on a warrant after laboratory tests found his palm and finger prints at the scene, police said.

A burglar that a Michigan Road resident chased out of his home at about 3 a.m. one night last November has been arrested, according to New Canaan police.

Miguel A. Palencia, 29, of Sherman Street, Stamford, was arrested just after midnight Thursday and charged with the burglary. A palm print and a fingerprint left at the scene led to the arrest, police said.

Back in November, New Canaan Patch reported this about the burglary:

One of the residents reported seeing the intruder in the home before he fled through a rear door.

Police called to the scene report signs of forcible entry through a rear first floor window. Nothing was taken from the home, according to the police report, but a vehicle parked in an unattached garage was entered and a GPS was reported stolen.

Police Chief Leon Krolikowski gave this account (an accusation not proven in court) of the matter in an emailed news release early Thursday morning:

On March 12, 2014, at approximately 12:15 am, Miguel A. Palencia of 9 Sherman Street, Stamford [age 29], was arrested by warrant for [...] second-degree burglary.

Palencia’s arrest is connected to a nighttime burglary that occurred on Michigan Road in New Canaan on November 8, 2011 at approximately 3:16 a.m.

The homeowner confronted a burglar inside his home and chased him outside. The investigation at the scene of the burglary resulted in the recovery of fingerprint and palm print evidence which was processed by the Connecticut State Forensic Laboratory.

The laboratory analysis resulted in the positive identification of Palencia. Subsequently, an arrest warrant was obtained for Palencia.

This arrest was the result of the hard work and dedication of the members of the New Canaan Police Department’s Investigative Section and Patrol Division as well as the Connecticut State Forensic Laboratory.

Palencia has a criminal history and was transported to Norwalk Superior Court for arraignment. Palencia is presently incarcerated at the Bridgeport Correctional Center.
