Police Dogs Find Domestic Violence Suspect On Pequot Drive

Stamford resident Rodney Collins faces assault and criminal mischief charges due to a police report filed against him which accuses him of hitting his girlfriend's daughter and then attempting to force his way back into her home.

Stamford police arrested Rodney Collins, 23, who is charged with allegedly striking his girlfriend's daughter, attempting to burglarize her home, and then hiding from police.

"It was on Aug 21, around half-past midnight. The call came in as a burglary in progress," SPD's Sgt. George Moran said. "Shortly before the police arrived, the victim's mother relayed that Rodney and the victim got into an argument over the way that the victim was dressed."

According to SPD, it was determined that the victim had been assaulted by Rodney during the argument. Although it is believed by the SPD that Collins was welcome in the home of the victim's mother at the time of the alleged assault, she had a standing protective order against him.

"After the argument, Rodney left, and then came back, attempting to force his way into the house," Moran said. Collins later returned, and the victim's mother struggled to keep him out.

"The door partially came off the hinge, and the door window was broken," Moran said. Collins left the house again before police arrived.

"He was apprehended at Pequot Drive when a K-9 unit picked up his scent and found him hiding behind a residence. When the officer found him, he surrendered without incident," Moran said.

Collins is charged with third degree assault, violation of a protective order, second degree criminal mischief, and disorderly conduct. The victim did not require treatment after the incident.
