Police: Brooklyn Man Stole Stamford Camera Arrested in Greenwich

An $8,000 camera theft and a $150 shoe-shining burglary top today's Stamford Police blotter.

Police said a Brooklyn man was arrested on a larceny charge in Greenwich and discovered to be in the Federal fingerprint system wanted on similar charges in Stamford.

Amsumana Jamaal Bility, 24, of Jefferson Avenue, was charged with larceny in connection to a 2009 incident in which an $8,000 Nikon was stolen from Camera Wholesalers at 1034 High Ridge Rd., according to authorities.

Bility was allegedly being shown all the bells and whistles on an $8,000 Nikon camera when he simply picked it up and ran out of the store with it.

There was no security footage of the man at the camera store, but authorities were able to lift a fingerprint from the scene. They entered it into a federal computer system that would show it was a match to Bility when he was arrested later in connection to a separate incident in Greenwich, police said.

A $150 burglary at a shoe repair shop led to the arrest of a 37-year-old Stamford man Monday, police announced Tuesday.

Authorities responding to a burglary found the gate and cash register both pried open at the Hakky Instant Shoe Repair Shop at 100 Greyrock Pl., they said.

Authorities said they were able to review security camera footage with the owner, who positively identified Jorge Gabriel Benitez, 37, of Brown Ave., as the suspect. Benitez was allegedly already known by the owner as someone who hung around the store on occasion.

Benitez faces charges of burglary, larceny and criminal mischief.
