Police Arrest City Man for Assaulting Club Bouncer, ER Nurse

28-year-old Jairo Nino struggled with a Discovery Cafe employee Sunday evening after he was denied entry.

arrested a 28-year-old man Monday morning after he kicked a nightclub bouncer in the stomach and then assaulted an ER nurse at , according to Sgt. Paul Vaccaro.

An officer was on patrol Sunday evening when he was flagged down by a bouncer employed by Discovery Cafe on Stillwater Avenue, Vaccaro said. The bouncer alerted the officer to Jairo Nino of 75 Smith Street, Stamford, whom he said punched him in the stomach. The bouncer also had a bump on the right side of his face but, according to Vaccaro, refused medical treatment. The bouncer told the officer that the fight ensued after he refused to let Nino into the club because he blood on his face.

Nino was placed under arrest and brought to Stamford Hospital for treatment, according to Vaccaro, where he assaulted the nurse assigned to treat him by kicking her in the head and spitting blood in her face. Nino, who was visibly intoxicated, also assaulted the medics who treated him on the way to the hospital and attempted to kick out the back window of a patrol car when he was being transported to the police department.

Nino was charged with second-degree breach of peace, two counts of third-degree assault and assault on emergency personnel. His bond was set at $50,000.
