Police: 2 Arrested for Assault on Girl at Movie Theater

After a 16-year-old Darien girl was assaulted as she worked the concession stand at Darien Playhouse on Jan. 27, Darien police announced the Feb. 4 arrest of a girl, 16, and the Feb. 28 arrest of a Stamford woman on assault and other charges.

A 36-year-old Stamford woman and a 16-year-old girl have been charged in connection with the recent attack on a Darien girl, 16, at the concession stand at Darien Playhouse.

Police said the two were part of a group of females who attacked the girl on Jan. 27. The victim received scrapes, small cuts and swelling on her face and was taken to Stamford Hospital by Darien EMS-Post 53, where she was treated and released.

Darien police gave this account of the matter (except as noted, all information below is from a police department news release):

At about 5:11 p.m., the group attacked the girl, who was working at the concession stand in the movie theater at 1077 Post Rd.

The victim indicated that she has had an ongoing dispute with a 16-year-old girl in the group. The Darien girl was able to identify that girl as well as Jessenia Maharaj, a resident of Randal Avenue in Stamford.

Those two were also "the principal attackers," according to the news release. In response to a question from Darien Patch on whether other arrests might be made, Darien Police Captain Frederick Komm said in an email: "We have arrested those persons responsible, and there will be no additional arrests."

Maharaj was charged with third-degree assault, risk of injury to a minor, conspiracy to commit third-degree assault and breach of the peace. After she was told a warrant for her arrest had been issued, Maharaj went to Darien police headquarters on Thursday. She was arrested and released on a written promise to appear March 11 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

Police issued a juvenile summons to the 16-year-old girl, who was not otherwise identified, charging her with third-degree assault, conspiracy to commit third-degree assault and breach of the peace. She was to appear Feb. 19 in juvenile court in Stamford.
