Pigeons, Peacock Run A-Fowl of Stamford Animal Control

Some fancy pigeons are found taking a breather on Stillwater Road, a peacock cuts loose in North Stamford and Brownie the blonde needs a home.

Stamford Animal Care & Control officers said they picked up a pair of pigeons this week—but the pigeons weren't just any plain old run-of-the-mill city birds.

Officers said the birds they picked up were of the "fancy" variety. Despite what might initially go through one's head when hearing of a fancy pigeon, they are simply a domesticated version of the Rock Pigeon, bred for shows and competitions.

The pair was found along Stillwater Road, Animal Control Officers said. They were recovered after a resident spotted them and knew they weren't ordinary birds. They are currently being held at the office.
