Pigeons, Peacock Run A-Fowl of Stamford Animal Control

Stamford Animal Care & Control officers said they picked up a pair of pigeons this week—but the pigeons weren't just any plain old run-of-the-mill city birds.

Officers said the birds they picked up were of the "fancy" variety. Despite what might initially go through one's head when hearing of a fancy pigeon, they are simply a domesticated version of the Rock Pigeon, bred for shows and competitions.

The pair was found along Stillwater Road, Animal Control Officers said. They were recovered after a resident spotted them and knew they weren't ordinary birds.They are currently being held at the office.

In North Stamford, officers are on the hunt for another loose livestock fowl.

Perhaps a friend of the on the loose near Ursula Place, this bird doesn't squawk as much and is a  bit more colorful. Officers said residents have been reporting a peacock on the loose all around the section of the city. It was last spotted on Long Ridge Road, officers said.

Animal control said he was either a resident's pet or an escapee from the Stamford Museum and Nature Center.

Stamford Animal Control's newest resident this past week was a blonde miniature pinscher named Brownie.

Continuing with their ticketing blitz at Mianus River Park following what officers called repeated and continual complaints from residents in the area, Stamford Animal Control said they gave out several tickets the previous weekend and planned to continue the blitz.
