Overnight Stamford Fire Sends Two to Hospital

An overnight fire in an illegal basement apartment on Halloween Boulevard sent a pregnant woman and 7-year-old girl to the hospital.

 

A fire at a Halloween Blvd. illegal apartment is being ruled suspicious, Stamford Police Lt. Diedrich Hohn said Friday.

The fire, which began near a furnace that ignited and melted a gas can underneath it that helped spread the flames, sent a pregnant woman and 7-year-old girl to the hospital, Hohn said.

They were sent to the hospital for precautionary reasons, treated and released, the lieutenant said.

The fire at 42 Halloween Blvd. began at approximately 1:45 p.m. and has not been cleared as an act of arson, he said.

Hohn said there the upstairs and downstairs neighbors did not necessarily get along, but would not comment further.

Three men were living in the illegal basement apartment at the time of the fire. The Stamford City Building Inspector has been notified of the situation and will conduct a follow up. The Red Cross will be providing assistance with housing for all the displaced parties.
