Operation Big Loot Nets Big Bust

A 33-year-old Maple Tree Avenue man was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for distributing crack cocaine.

A combined effort by the Drug Enforcement Agency and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives resulted in another conviction Monday.

Juan "Los" Alvarez, 33, of Maple Tree Ave., was sentenced Monday to 180 months in federal prison and eights years supervised release for distributing crack cocaine, the U.S. Attorney's office announced.

Alvarez pleaded guilty in August 2010 to one count of conspiring to distribute more than 50 grams of the drug.

52 individuals have been arrested as a result of Operation Big Loot and charged on the state and federal level with offenses relating to the attempt to distribute crack cocaine in the greater Stamford area.

Additionally, $165,000 has been recovered by authorities, over one kilogram of cocaine and two kilograms of crack have been taken off the streets and five firearms and multiple vehicles have been confiscated, the attorney's office announced.
