Norwalk Woman Arrested for Shoplifting from Stamford Hotel

Police reports for March 9-10. Information is supplied by the Stamford Police Department. It does not indicate convictions.

Stamford police arrested a 20-year-old Norwalk woman Wednesday afternoon after she begged someone on Facebook to take down incriminating pictures of her.

According to 's Property Crimes Division, officers were conducting an investigation of a series of thefts that occurred on Oct. 23 of last year at the Hilton Stamford Hotel. Two females were seen on surveillance video stealing pocketbooks from a conference room while the six owners were attending religious services inside the hotel. The two females made purchases in Norwalk with credit cards found in the pocketbooks later that day.

After the incident, a press release with surveillance photos of the women was sent out asking individuals to contact the police with any information. The release was also posted on Facebook. One of the suspects, Dominique Abelard, 20, of 1 Chestnut Street, responded to the Facebook posting and begged the originator to take the photos down. By doing this, Property Crime Officer Jeff Booth was able to track down the caller and ultimately identified her. The identity of the second suspect remains unknown.
