New Canaan Man Charged in Stamford Parking Garage Stabbing Incident

The fight, which occurred in February, saw four men beating up the victim and smashing a beer bottle over his head, according to police.

A New Canaan man was arrested after turning himself in Wednesday evening for his role in a fight that took place in a Stamford parking garage that left one man with a stab wound to the neck, according to police.

Hector R. Melendez, 27, of the 600 block of South Ave. in New Canaan, was charged in connection to the Bell Street Parking Garage fight that took place several months ago, police said Thursday.

In that fight, the victim was attacked after discarding a cigarette butt which offended a group of four men, who believed the victim was throwing the butt at them, police said.

The victim was allegedly attacked, beaten and had a beer bottle broken over his head by 23-year-old , who was with Melendez at the time, according to previous police reports.

As a parking attendant called authorities, the victim attempted to flee the scene by scrambling to a friend's car on the third floor, but the suspects chased him down and continued the attack there, fleeing before police arrived, authorities said.

The victim required staples on his scalp from the beer bottle and stitches to a puncture wound on his neck, according to police. A closed Sheffield knife was recovered at the scene.

Menendez faces charges of assault and conspiracy to commit a crime. He was held on $100,000 bond and scheduled to appear in court Thursday.

Other Arrests:

Jose Algarin, 51, of the 600 block of Winchester Ave. in New Haven, Mario Gilberto Martinez, 25, of the 200 block of Fairfield Ave. in Stamford, and Joseito Otero, 45, and Gerry Henry, 50, both homeless, were all arrested by the Stamford Police Department's narcotics force Wednesday evening. All face drug-related charges. Additionally, Henry faces assault and criminal mischief charges.

Gary Hurcules Butler, 56, of South Pacific St., faces charges of failure to verify address.

Carlos Enrique Catu-Cali, 22, of Houston Terr., was charged with resisting arrest, failure to register a commercial motor vehicle, failure to insure a private motor vehicle, operation of a motorcycle without a license and a lack of face protection while on a motorcycle.

Rodolfo Catucali, 24, of Greenwich Ave., Latoya Monique Cruz, 23, of Cove. Rd., Stanley Lovell Hall, 52, of Ferris Ave., Andre Quinn Russell, 18, of Henry St., and Katina Williams, 39, of Aberdeen St., were all charged with failure to appear. Additionally, Williams was charged with Illegal operation of a motor vehicle and failure to keep plates readable.

Tobias Guzman Vasquez, 36, of Aberdeen St., and Antonio Jesus Gonzalez, 32, of South Pacific St., were both charged with breach of peace.

Carlos Ruben Diaz, 24, of Hanrahan Rd., was charged with interference with an officer and illegal operation of a motor vehicle.

Robert Vincent Dudley, 45, of Glenbrook Rd., was charged with Larceny and criminal trespass.
