Motorcyclist Killed, Car Driver Injured in Hope Street Collision

Stamford police are investigating a fatal motorcycle-SUV collision that occurred Monday night on Hope Street.

A motorcyclist was killed and a SUV driver was injured as a result of a Monday night collision where excessive speed may have been a factor.

"The Stamford Police Departments Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is investigating a two vehicle collision that occurred at 634 Hope Street at approximately 7:30 p.m. Monday night," SPD Sgt. Andrew Gallagher stated in a press release."

"A 1997 Kawasaki motorcycle being operated northbound on Hope Street by Fernando Quintero-Montano, 38, of 116 Scofield Ave. Stamford collided with a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder being operated southbound by Francisco Gaviola, 24 of 142 Stuart Ave., Norwalk," Gallagher stated.

The collision is now the subject of an ongoing investigation, and police believe that excessive speed may have been a factor.

Quintero-Montano was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, and received head trauma among other severe injuries. He was treated at the scene and then taken to Stamford Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:20 p.m.

Gaviola was treated for minor injuries at Stamford Hospital and later released.
