Motorcyclist Killed in Accident in Downtown Stamford [Update]

Stamford Police have released the names of the driver and motorcyclist involved in Saturday's fatal motor vehicle accident on Canal Street.

[Update, 3:15 pm, Sunday, Aug. 5:]

Stamford Police have identified the motorcyclist who died Saturday as a result of injuries he sustained in an accident on Canal Street as Eric Rios-Martinez, 25, of 13 Cedar Street, Stamford.

In addition police have identified the driver of the Volvo involved in the accident as Peter Muhlrad, 62, of 3 Lockwood Drive, Old Greenwich.

A motorcyclist died from injuries he sustained in an accident that occurred Saturday afternoon on Canal Street near Fairway Market.

According to police the 25 year old Stamford rider was traveling south on Canal Street at about 3:20 p.m. when his motorcycle struck the front end of a Volvo operated by a 62 year old resident of Old Greenwich. Police said the driver of the Volvo was exiting the driveway of a local business.

The motorcycle operator, who was wearing a helmet, was transported to Stamford Hospital, where he died from his injuries, according to police. The driver of the Volvo did not request medical attention.

The Stamford Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is investigating the cause of the accident. Anyone with information is asked to call (203) 977-4712.
