Motorcycle Accident Shuts Down I-95 in Stamford

A motorcycle accident that occurred on Sunday evening on Interstate 95 southbound near Exit 9 in reportedly shut down the highway for several hours.

State police closed the highway for a period of about 15 minutes while they investigated the accident, according to the report. That resulted in a 14-mile traffic backup that went all the way to Exit 18 in Westport, the report states.

In addition the Merritt Parkway was congested for 10 miles between exits 41 and 35 southbound — and Route 1 in Norwalk saw serious delays as motorists diverted to alternate routes.
The accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. but congestion didn't start clearing until around 10 p.m., according to the report — no doubt causing headaches for many vacationers trying to make their way home on a post-holiday Sunday evening.
