Memorial Day Water Troubles in Stamford Lead to Arrest, Heroes

In two separate incidents, trouble in the water brought out the best and the worst in people.

Police responding to a call from the Springdale section of the city found a complainant who said his children had been shot with a BB gun, one of whom still had the marks from the attack, police announced Tuesday.

The man alleged that his two kids had been swimming in a pool in the back yard when they were stuck by BBs, police said. The man told authorities he witnessed a hand holding a pistol sticking out of the second story of the neighboring home.

Police went and interviewed the household next door. The parents were home along with their 11-year-old son, who admitted to police he had used an Airsoft pistol to fire at the girls, police said.

The juvenile boy was arrested on charges of assault and breach of peace. He was released into the custody of his parents.

Police gave the credit of one young girl being alive to two observant—and still anonymous—Good Samaritans. Authorities responding to a call from Cove Island Park found a young girl who didn't know how to swim who'd been rescued from the water.

According to authorities, an 11-year-old girl who entered the water beyond her limits began to drown when 2 beach-goers spotted her and took to the water. When they got to where she had been, they had to retrieve her from under 6 feet of water.

A lifeguard on duty assisted in pulling the girl to shore and administered emergency protocol. The girl spit up some water and was given oxygen.

The identities of the two Good Samaritans remains unknown.
