Thieves with a penchant for Crest whitening strips and power toothbrushes ripped off more than $2,000 worth of the oral hygiene products in simultaneous thefts at a pair of Riverside pharmacies.

According to police, shortly after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the CVS pharmacy in the Riverside Commons shopping center, 1239  E. Putnam Ave. and at Walgreen's Pharmacy, 1333 E. Putnam Ave. One man was able to fill two shopping handbaskets with the items at Walgreen's while a second man apparently did the same thing at CVS.

A Stamford woman who showed up Tuesday evening at the Norwalk Hospital emergency department with a gunshot wound in her leg said she was shot at when walking on a Norwalk street, according to Norwalk police, who gave this account of questioning her and a friend:

The woman said she the name of the friend who took her to the hospital. A friend who said he drove her to the hospital said he couldn't remember what kind of car he was driving when he picked up the woman to take her to the hospital. When asked if he picked her up in Norwalk or Stamford, he said, "That's a good question. I forget."

A Stamford man who was awaiting trial for crimes committed in Stamford died from unknown means at the Bridgeport Correctional Center on Tuesday. The man, who had been arrested for attacking another Stamford male with a log, collapsed suddenly in the exercise yard and was pronounced dead on at the nearest hospital. His cause of death remains unknown.
